How are services delivered?
All services—with the exception of professional development for teams—are delivered virtually through synchronous teletherapy sessions using Simple Practice. Individuals who receive service have access to a patient portal for completing forms, uploading documents, scheduling appointments, and making payments.
Coaching is conducted virtually . After payment for participating in coaching is received, you’ll receive an email with details for joining the virtual meeting.
How should I prepare for my teletherapy session?
Teletherapy is a great way to participate in therapy and coaching because it allows you to participate from the comfort of your own home. Here are a few tips to keep in mind so that your session is as comfortable and productive as possible:
- Find a private space where you won’t be disturbed for the duration of the session.
- Make sure that other people in your home understand that this time belongs to you and that you shouldn’t be interrupted.
- Have a strong internet connection. A poor connection can interfere with the audio and video quality for both of us.
- Make sure that your computer’s camera and microphone are working correctly. To reduce echo, feedback, and other ambient noise, consider using a headset with a built-in microphone.
- If you connect to the session using a mobile device, secure your device in a stable, upright position where we can see and hear each other well. Don’t walk around with your device during the session.
What ages do you see for individual therapy?
My practice is intended primarily for ages 18 or older. Therapy for adolescents between the ages of 14 and 18 may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Because my practice is teletherapy, I don’t recommend my services for any individual younger than 14.
What kind of coaching do you do?
My coaching practice supports adults who work or live with children who exhibit challenging behaviors, which can happen for a variety of reasons. No matter the cause of the challenging behavior, coaching can help adults learn how to help a child regulate and develop positive social-emotional skills. Coaching can teach adults how to:
- De-escalate a child who’s out of control
- Establish high structure and clear expectations
- Identify which strategies can help the child modulate
- Teach the child how to problem-solve
- Teach the child how to identify feelings and solutions
- Identify the real problem that’s causing the challenging behavior, rather than fixate on the behavior itself
These skills help children become better regulated, more empathetic, and better problem-solvers.
Coaching can be conducted 1-on-1, where we focus on your specific child and their behaviors. Or, you can join a coaching group, which is an educational environment that focuses on general best practices, but doesn’t discuss your specific child.
